The future of Embedded Networks has again been brought into question, however this time in New South Wales (NSW).
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has been asked to recommend:
Price protections for customers being supplied electricity, gas, hot water, chilled water, and whether the NSW Government should prohibit the establishment of new hot and chilled water networks. Submissions to IPART’s Consultation Papers closed on Monday 11 September 2023. ENM Solutions has again reinforced our support for the benefits of Embedded Networks when properly managed, in our submission included below.
Throughout the consultation period, IPART received 55 submissions from a cross section of both consumers and industry stakeholders.
IPART hosted its Stakeholder Workshop, the final stage of their consultation process, on the 21st September. Primarily, this workshop was a mechanism for the review to hear from and examine the proposed criteria for pricing methodology and how these applied to hot water, chilled water, gas and electricity. The workshop engaged with Embedded Network Customers and Operators from a variety of sectors, expressing the broad spectrum of experiences, challenges and opportunities Embedded Networks offer. In line with the purpose of the meeting, much discussion was had regarding setting a maximum price and practicalities of billing, both in terms of hot water, electricity and other services.
The workshop highlighted the need for continued education for all stakeholders, and the opportunity Embedded Networks can provide to customers through access to renewables as well as innovative energy and service solutions. IPART will digest the findings from this workshop and the extended consultant process for their draft report - due in November 2023.
